Besichtigen Sie 17 historische Landschulen in Gillespie County mit dem Auto oder dem Fahrrad auf den selbstgeführten Gillespie County Country Schools Driving and Cycling Trails. Die gesamte 120 Meilen lange Strecke umfasst 17 historische Landschulen aus den Jahren 1847 bis 1936. Viele der historischen Schulen entlang des Weges sind im National Register of Historic Places aufgeführt und von der Country School Association of America anerkannt. Die Fahrzeiten entlang der Routen variieren zwischen einer Stunde und einem halben Tag. Viele der historischen Schulen entlang des Weges wurden aus Holzstämmen, einheimischem Kalkstein oder mit Holz- und Zinnfassaden gebaut, die für das texanische Hill Country typisch sind, und waren Ein-Lehrer-Schulen, in denen bis zu zehn Klassen gleichzeitig unterrichtet wurden. Heute können diese Schulen für Hochzeiten, Klassentreffen, Gruppen und vieles mehr gemietet werden. Pecan Creek School Open House

Built in 1916, Pecan Creek School is now 110 years old. Take a scenic drive to Fredericksburg and visit the school from 11am - 4pm during the annual open house on 5/2/26.

Step into the past and experience what education was like in simpler times. No iPads or computers here!

After a tour of the school, enjoy a house-smoked pulled pork sandwich plate with a variety of sides, dessert, and tea for a suggested donation of $10 (cash only). Proceeds support the maintenance of the historic school and pavilion.

The open house will also feature a visit from the Fredericksburg Vintage Car Club from 11am – 1pm. The Club is comprised of a wide array of vintage vehicles, from the Model A to vehicles from the 1970s and 80s.
